Caduceus Anubis 2016

Maynard James Keenan’s 2016 Anubis is the first time the Anubis has been crafted from grapes grown in Northern Arizona. Th 2016 creation of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, 20% Petite Sirah from Eliphante Vineyard in Yavapai County in Northern Arizona. This full bodied red is aged in new and neutral French Oak for 18 months before blending and bottling. The rich and bold wine gives hints of sage, smoke and red berries and is perfect with red meats.

Damn, this is a sexy wine. I love Anubis with all is full bodied parts to grab onto whilst enjoying the ride. Blending Cab Sauv with Cabernet Franc & Petite Sirah (we call it Durif), the end result is a beautiful, voluptuous red that is a lot more delicate than you would expect. Red berry fruit to start, lively acidity to complement many different foods and silky tannins to let it slide right down. The 2016 Anubis is a baby that could do with a few years in the cellar, but if you crack it now, give it some time to breathe in a decanter and it will really come alive. A blend like this truely shows the talent of the winemaker. Homemade Burger with the lot, BBQ Pulled Pork or Roast Lamb with thick gravy would kill it with this wine. Matt@Sip Wine
