Hauner Hiera Rosso 2015


60% Nero d’Avola, 30% Alicante, 10% Nocera. The grapes undergo a lengthy maceration on the skins before aging in stainless steel and barriques. The wine rests for four months in the bottle before release. Deep Ruby with an intense and fragrant bouquet of wild berries, sweet spice and chocolate. Velvety, Complex and Full Bodied.



VARIETY: 60% Nero d’Avola, 30% Alicante & 10% Nocera VINEYARDS:  From 25 year old vines located on  the Aeolian Island of Vulcano, North of Sicily, Italy. Northeast facing Vineyards at 1,310 feet above sea level on Volcanic soil. VINIFICATION: Grapes are hand picked in the 1st week of September.  The must is warmed piror to fermentation, which takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature for approximately six days. The wine is aged in stainless steel tanks follwed by a brief sojourn in barriques. The wine then rest for four months in the bottle. TASTING NOTES: Very deep ruby with a purple rim. First impact on the nose is rich in aromas, outstanding intensity with elegant notes ranging from brushwood and red berry fruit to sweet tobacco, spice and chocolate. Sweet tannins, rich, sunny flavors, good body and superb balance, result in a depth and intensity that could only come from the Vulcano Island. Winemaker Fabrizio Zardini says “At Hauner we believe that, given the amazing soils, unique landscapes, and fantastic grapes of the Aeolian Islands, we are honor-bound to create wines worthy of such fruit.” Pair with tasty and slightly spicy dishes and caper-based entrées.
